oil on canvas, 24 x 19 11/16in. Private Collection
Fleeing from Bolchevism in Russia at the young age of 13, Serge Poliakoff reveals his true colours upon arrival in Paris in 1923. In order to survive, he played the guitar in cabarets for decades until his art became recognized. He is acknowledged as a painter at the age of fifty, living at last success, fame and wealth. Musician at heart, his art is reminiscent of the variations of a symphony, seeking the perfect balance between colours, textures and forms.
