Ilona Schwippel est une créatrice d'origine allemande, née en 1969. Après une formation classique et de nombreux stages en Europe, elle a été l'élève d'Esther Brinkmann à la Haute école d'arts appliqués à Genève (actuellement HEAD). Depuis 2001 elle dirige en compagnie de Christian Balmer la galerie viceversa à Lausanne et a assuré le commissariat de plusieurs expositions de bijou contemporain.

Cette broche est l'exemple même d'une réflexion sur le travail traditionnel du bijoutier. Il est en effet courant de lui demander de transformer les bijoux reçus en héritage. Entre deux plaques d'or fin, Ilona Schwippel a enchâssé une broche ancienne sertie d'une améthyste. On la devine en «transparence». L'or est là pour lui donner une seconde vie: les bijoux sont éternels...
